Our last update was in October, time for another!
On Nov. 1-2 (2022) Mexico celebrated Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos). We found a parade forming in west Ajijic. Lots of ‘ofrendas’ (altars) up and down each street honoring loved ones who have passed.
We started volunteering for a local organization named ‘Tails of Mexico’ which sets up clinics offering free spay and neuter surgery for cats and dogs. Bryn mainly works the surgery prep table, giving anesthetized animals a good shave in the surgical area. Glenn mostly carries cats and dogs around from anesthesia to prep to surgery to recovery. We have now done three or four clinics. If you run the numbers, that’s probably hundreds or thousands of unwanted puppies/kittens that won’t have to suffer, starve or end up being put down just for lack of demand. This area already ships dozens of adoption pets to US and Canada each year.
WE MOVED! We moved a whole two blocks. Nice new apartment complex with massive solar panels on the roof and a pool/jacuzzi combo. We can see the lake from our living room couch!
We finally got back into the swing of Pickleball. Lots of courts and players down here. At this point we’re not sure we will continue with it or not, but it’s been interesting :)
Big news - Glenn is *finally* a Residente Permanente! Only took like 10 years or so?
Had a good time catching up w/ Martha who dropped back in from Switzerland. Enjoyed some happy hour margaritas at Mel’s.
Tagged along with Rich and Shannon at a local version of a Renaissance Festival on the outskirts of Guadalajara. Finally figured out that RenFests are basically just cosplay events…
Fat Tuesday in Ajijic. They don’t have confetti or beads, but they do have a metric ton of flour to dispense! Fun times. Eleven years since our first.
For once someone actually came to Mexico to visit us! We know Dennis (end of table) from when we lived in San Cristobal. Next to him is Joy, who dropped in via a reference from an RV friend and stayed in our guest bedroom a few nights. Enjoyed our time with both of them.
Closing this out with just another sunrise from our apartment roof, aka mirador.
Got some big travel plans for the next year, hopefully September and January. Trying to spend our next birthdays in ‘foreign lands’ - will keep you posted :)
For some reason we tend to have a lot of milestones in very close proximity to April Fool’s Day. Not sure what this says about us. March 25th was the 12th Anniversary of when we originally quit our jobs and hit the road, and I’m sending this update on, yep, April 1st! But no jokes or pranks, just an update :)
NOTE: The joke’s on me! I somehow managed to hit the wrong button and this did not go out on April 1. Hah!
Sounds like a great year!
