“More news/blog posts soon”
Why do I type things like that? OK, so this time I procrastinated even longer than the previous time! I’m truly apologetic. Let’s catch up, shall we?
New Year’s Eve/Day - spent the evening with Ella and Fernando, and a friend of Fer’s whose name I have forgotten. Watched fireworks from the roof. Good fun, good food, good drinks!
Right after that, we escaped the cold by hopping on a bus and heading south, back down to good old Jalisco. Stopped in Ajijic for a bit, stayed with friends, celebrated Glenn’s 59th (and final?) birthday w/ friends. Had fun dancing.
Next stop, Cabo! We flew over from Guadalajara. Nice place, but geeze, the tourist prices! Not really our cup of tea. $20 for a veggie burger seemed a bit much. At least it was warm. And we saw whales! Glenn was not a fan of the slightly choppy surf.
After that, back to Ajijic. At long last, finally, the year-long saga is over and Glenn has hopefully permanent implants to replace the multiple failed bridge replacement attempts! Then we bussed it back to Zacatecas. At some point in here, a bit in Ajijic and a bit back in Zacatecas, Bryn came down with an annoying cough that just wouldn’t stop. Until it did, but it was several days of coughing. An early case of COVID? Maybe, not sure how to tell.
In February one day we walked to WalMart and on the way ran across a pit bull mix female lying off the highway, huddled, bloody, shivering. We called a friend who brought help and we all put her in the back of an SUV and took her to a vet. Her right hip had been fractured. There were evidently some other problems as well, but we paid for the surgery. Another friend of a friend took her in to foster her back to health. She is now with a hopefully forever home and is walking on her own. A happy ending.
On March 13 we met some friends for a little language exchange get-together. It turned out to be our last in-person event without masks before COVID took over. Fortunately none of us came down with any symptoms. The next day we stocked up on toilet paper.
Later in the month, the pressurized bladder tank for the building’s water supply blew out. No water for about four days. That was fun!
In early May Glenn got his very own ukulele - we’re a duet now!
Right around this time, early May, we noticed that life had begin to feel like the Groundhog Day movie. Every day was the same, no more drunken bands and cohetes and parties and larger events. All cancelled, all quiet. These things were part of the charm of Zacatecas. Without them it was kinda boring. Nothing to see if you walked through town. Nothing at home but staring at the walls. And then Bryn wondered if there were some way for us to have a different view each day, and if that would help. And then we were talking about RV’s and moving back to the States…
